An NFT by artist Lynn Hershman Leeson is being featured in SFMOMA’s annual Art Bash auction, the proceeds of which underwrite the museum’s education and community programs. Leeson lives and works in San Francisco, where she currently has her exhibition with Altman Siegel.
Below find information about the NFT as written by Rudolf Frieling, Curator of Media Arts at SFMOMA.
”The title of this non-fungible token (NFT) is identical to the final sentence spoken by Tilda Swinton in Lynn Hershman Leeson’s film Conceiving Ada (1995). This visionary film about the legacy of Ada Lovelace, a mathematician who wrote the very first computer program in the nineteenth century, was made nearly thirty years ago but resonates today with the idea of NFTs. Each generation recreates itself with the technological means of its time. Today, we witness a revolution based on artificial intelligence, NFTs, and DNA becoming the driving force of a new language for storage and communication.
Artist and filmmaker Lynn Hershman Leeson is recognized for her work investigating key issues including the relationship between humans and technology, identity, surveillance, and the use of media as a tool of empowerment against censorship.”
